Before I got to university, I didn’t have a clue about what scientists do on a daily basis. I didn’t have role models outside those highly stereotyped media portrayals of scientists as either MAD or absent-minded. I’m trying to change that for future generations of STEM professionals. We talked about my graduate work providing genetic data to the endangered Sonoran pronghorn management team as well as my current work extracting genomes and epigenomes from specimens at the Australian National Wildlife Collection.
